
The Nature of Science
The goal of science is to understand the world around us.
The world of science is divided into three categories: Life, Earth, and Physical.
We learn about the world through asking questions and finding their answers. The most logical way to complete this task is in an organized manner by using the Scientific Method.
We think in a logical sequence. Think of your morning routine. You logically do everything you need to get yourself ready to get to school on time. You use Inquiry every day.
Method of Inquiry
A. State the problem/ask a question.
B. Gather Information on the problem, by researching, make observations, collect data, and make inferences.
C. Develop the Hypothesis: Create an if I…..then …. statement.
D. Write your procedures.
Use Transitional words. First list materials, second, third, then. finally
E. Test the Hypothesis
F. Record the data. Use charts, graphs, pictures, maps, diagrams.
G. Interpret, and organize the data
H. State your conclusion
I. Retest if necessary
